How to Choose DHA Supplements For The Best Health Benefits

Choose DHA supplements for their purity, concentration of DHA, the bio-availability and value for money. The only good source of DHA is fish oil.

Follow the rules and can not go wrong. This article tells how DHA supplements are a great idea, and the logic behind these guidelines.

Why is DHA?

Fatty fish oils have been known for its effects on health, supported by more than 3,000 studies published in scientific and medical journals.

DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) is the most powerful of the omega 3 oils found in fish, followed by another valuable omega 3, EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid). This was published in the journal Pharmacological Research in 1999, and the evidence has been assembled in one study after another since then.

A third omega-3, DPA, is also found naturally in all fish oils, although I recently read a claim to the contrary. (It was a lie, written to sell other oil.) Role of the DPA is still not understood and for that reason, often does not appear on the label.

DHA is the most effective Omega-3 to combat inflammation in the body.

This anti-inflammatory ability is believed to be the main reason for a wide range of benefits to omega 3 is: the suppression of cardiac arrhythmia, the departure of heart attacks, reducing high blood pressure, improve arthritis, diabetes, dises Crohn's disease and other inflammatory bowel diseases, improving brain function and mood and prevent depression, a few examples.

Flaxseed oil is almost useless as a source of DHA

Alpha-linolenic acid in flaxseed oil is valuable in itself, but the human body can convert very little of it into EPA and DHA in most sessions. There are reasonably priced vegetarian source of DHA.

Clarity: DHA oil must come from molecularly distilled to remove virtually all mercury and other toxic heavy metals and dioxins which are very common in fish today.

Concentration and bioavailability:

During molecular distillation, DHA may be concentrated in two or three times the level of crude oil. Also becomes ethyl esters instead of the original form of triglyceride oil. Interestingly, the body must do exactly the same to take the form of omega 3 and most immediately useful to the body is the DHA ethyl ester.

You can re-converted back into triglyerides, but the result is not natural, although it is sold that way, and almost certainly is not as readily available to the body.

Value for money:

Even if cost is no problem for you, it makes no sense to pay the higher price. Why? Because the most expensive sources of omega 3 are definitely the best quality - an old story in the health and skin care, in my experience.

Please do not misunderstand me. Cheap is not the answer: quality of omega-3 oils are low cost, no doubt. But the best I've seen are only moderate in price. Therefore, it makes no sense to spend much money on supplements of DHA.
